...beat that...

Hello. It is still snowing a little in Chester County, PA unless that's just the wind blowing things around. Accumulation was little but it is hovering around 20 degrees and feels more like 11 with the addition of strong winds. Brrr. I spent yesterday doing errands and home items like house cleaning and laundry which made for a rather uneventful day, but I'll take it. I slept better than I have in weeks and kept odd people and negative behavior totally out of the equation. That accounts for a lot. I am guessing that school closings and late starts are all over the map here and am wishing parents added strength...just in case they were awaiting the start of that school bell. I have heard about a lot of birthdays in the past two weeks and am tempted to count back nine months but that could be silly. I do know that on this day in 1950, American singer and drummer Karen Carpenter was born in New Haven, CT. Best known for her vocals, Karen Carpenter was also an accomplished drummer, her masterful talents praised by fellow drummers Hal Blaine, Buddy Rich and Modern Drummer magazine. Many people are unaware that Karen had an impeccable ability to play the drums, in part because the public wanted a singing Karen Carpenter, rather than a drumming Karen Carpenter. However, according to Richard Carpenter in an interview, Karen always considered herself a "drummer who sang."
Carpenter first started playing the drum set in 1964. She was always enthusiastic about the drums, and taught herself how to play complicated drum lines with "exotic time signatures" (quoting Richard Carpenter from the 'Close to You' documentary). Happy Birthday in Heaven Karen!
'I'm determined to be contented, and having plenty of money from working makes it easier for me.' Karen Carpenter
