...his name was Rico...

Hello. I am blogging to apologize for yesterday's blog. Several people have emailed me telling me that they cannot get 'Copacabana' out of their heads and for that I truly apologize. Some songs have a strong yet simple contagious melody containing more hooks than a brothel in Alabama and it happens. I did a little Google search resulting from inquiries concerning Rico, who wore that infamous diamond and here is what I have learned. He remained at the Copa for many years, tending bar and continuing his workouts. The song made the Copacabana Bar even more popular and his tips grew. Many came simply to touch his 'diamond' which pissed Lola off to no end. Saving the bar cash he then segued his renown into a jewelery store in Brooklyn calling it 'Rico's Rocks' which was a mild success. Not realizing how competitive and cut throat that industry was he closed and is now operating a car wash on Long Island. Hopefully this short post will assist you in getting that song out of your heads. Have a great day. By the way, on this day in 1970 Karen and Richard Carpenter had their first smash hit as "(They Long to Be) Close to You" reached #1 and remained at the top of Billboard's Hot 100 for weeks. Do you remember how that recording went? A song with a simple but contagious melody containing more hooks than a tackle shop in Maine. hehehehe...
