"When one door closes, another one opens." That adage has been around for years, so there must be something to it. How else can it's longevity be explained? But what happens when we are the ones to close a door? Does the Universe still open another one? I believe so. Think of the battered wife who finally says 'enough', or the family who builds their dream house only to find out later that it was built on contaminated ground. Things that seem good at the time may not be so good as we grow and learn and we have the power to close that door. Speaking of saying 'enough' and closing doors, on this day in 1969, the Stonewall riots began in New York City. These riots are frequently cited as the first instance in American history when people in the homosexual community fought back against a government-sponsored system that persecuted sexual minorities. They have become the defining event that marked the start of the gay rights movement. Yes, a drag queen supposedly started to beat down a cop with her purse. Good for her/him. Different does not equal weak. The cop reportedly had backwards Louis Vuitton monograms all over his face and arms to prove it. Work hard, be at peace and don't take any shit from haters. Gotta go now. I think I just heard a door opening.
